
Dr. Ir. J. J. M. (Jeroen) de Klein (1959) holds a MSc in Environmental Science from Wageningen Agricultural University (1984) with specializations in Water Quality Management and Environmental Technology.
From 1985 to 1990 he worked at the Regional Water Authority of the Rhine and IJssel area, and after that he was senior-advisor at a consultancy for 5 years. From 1995 on he occupies a position as assistant professor in Water Quality Management at Wageningen University and Research centre. His research covers eutrophication, the (agricultural) input and fate of nutrients in aquatic ecosystems and applied water system modeling, scenario-studies. In 2008 Jeroen finished his PhD Thesis entitled "From Ditch to Delta. Nutrient retention in running waters”.

Jeroen lectures several courses:
Introduction in Water and Soil science,
Processes in aquatic systems Quality,
Models for ecology and water quality
Practical course in Aquatic Ecology
Practical course Hydrology and Surface Water Quality.
He supervises students for their MSc thesis Water Quality Management.
Current major research project involves the ecological function of ditches (the PLONS project). Research themes are Fate of N and P, Management of ditches and Biodiversity.
In addition, Jeroen is involved in the European Cost action 869, Mitigation options for nutrient reduction in surface water and groundwaters.
